so, i am looking for some affordable housing. i currently live in fort lauderdale florida. my financial situation is about to change. the dep of edu is about to garnish my checkby 15 percent. so making the rent while maintaining my fab lifestyle is going to be a bitch.
i am looking for section eight or public housing in the austin area, nyc, cal san diego, san fran or southern cali. those are the places i wouldnt mind living. transportion, blind services like o and m and medical treatment are importante. i am not opposed to a roomate situation. if you know of someone renting a place under 500 dollars shoot me an email. if you live in one of the above mention places and know of section eight and or public housing vouchers opeing give me heads up. i am titipapa1969@gmail.com
i hear missuri gives an additional 600 dollars. but not sure if i can handle the cold. i know of two folk who live there. since i am on diealyses being stuck in the middle of a deep freez might be risky. well thanks for erading and hope to hear from someone. cheers, gizzmo
I live near St. Peetersburg florida and the transportation is pretty good here. They also have affordable housing as well and from what I've heard it's in a safe areas.
I used to live in Austin, and Austin has several, but most places that are income based there are closed. I have been looking around myself at either Austin or Denver, but both places are closed when it comes to income-based housing. They have affordable housing in both places, but they require you to make 2 to 2.5 times the amount of rent, so if the rent is $700, you would have to make at least 1400 or $1750 depending on the complex and requirements. Most Section 8 lists around the country are closed, but I think San Antonio, Texas has section 8 and public housing that is open last time I checked. Perhaps you can bookmark the websites for each housing authority and watch the announcements they put on their sites every few weeks or each month to see if they are opening their waiting lists. You can just do an internet search for "housing authority" and the name of the city you are looking for, and you should be able to find the sites.
Hope this helps.
st pete? i have been there to the dali museum and have hung out at the pear. nice place. i love the laid back vibe and the under developed beach is nice. san antonio? i looked up the housing section in san antonio but did not see a thing. will have to look back. ty for all the info! it is a bitch trying to make it on your won. *sights*cheers gizmo
Yeah I know, especially if you live in a small town.
yes, agree. small towns can be a bitch. *sights* right now i pay 650 but live check to check. i would rather live in a section eight or public housing and i could save my money for other stuff. some ppl on public housing pay under 300dollars a month! man i wouldnt mind it but with it comes some restrictions as well
That's true, and it depends on how much crap you want to put up with. it said you would consider a room mate situation.
I'm also looking to maybe move to the Tampa area, but not sure as of yet. Perhaps we could work something out even if you want to move here to St. peet. Of course we'd have to get to know one another before considering room mate situation but I'm in no rush right now honestly.
I pay 219 bucks for rent with utilities included. The down side of course is I rather suspect the Twin Falls Housing Authority has some less thalegal policies. THey've sort of implied that I could get in trouble for violating my lease if I allowed a blind visitor to bring their guide dog into my apartment eventhough the ADA would prohibit that sort of penalty.
there are often long waiting lists for housing assistance, not to mention some crazy requirements that people have to meet, in order to qualify for it.
I've looked into things pretty recently, myself, and that's what I've found. best of luck to you, though, in finding what you're looking for.
For anyone who works, Portland has what they call income restricted housing. This only works if you're working, but the housing is in good areas with good transportation. I don't know what they're like, as we make too much to qualify.
But room sharing is very big here also.
unique, currently how big is your place? the ideal roomate sit i would want my own restroom..
my place is really small only 1 bathroom. But then again I live alone. If I were to get a room mate I'd move in to a bigger place.
